The rhythms of Dhrupad Gayan were well-received by the classical music lovers of the city. A cultural programme was organised at Tribal Museum here on Sunday under ‘Uttaradhikar series of cultural programmes.’
The classical music lovers took the pleasure of the Dhrupad singing at the programme. Keeping in view of the Guru Shishya Parampara, Tribal Museum is organising a series of classical music and dance under Uttaradhikar series every Sunday.
The Dhrupad Gayan was presented by the students of Dhrupad Institute, Bhopal. Singers including Ashish Mishra, Auchin Banerjee, Vikas Gupta, Akshay Gupta, and Vinay Shukla.
The programme began with the Raga Bhimpalasi. The students received enormous appreciation by the audiences as they presented their performance of different classical ragas.
Then they performed Raga Yeaman. Under trhis raga they performed Alap, and Bandish in Chautaal. Then they performed Raga Khamaj, Vihaag, Shankara and then they wrapped up their performances with Raga Tilang.
Under these ragas they performed Bandhish. Moreover the students were accompanied by Gopal Ungile on Pakhawaj and Yogesh Gurnani on Taanpura.
Notably, Dhrupad was a dominant form of vocal music in northern India until the eighteenth century, when it was gradually overtaken by the lighter, more florid vocal style as 'Khayal'.
The students gave a customary performance of Dhrupad, that was an extended melodic improvisation exploring the mood of the Raga and the Dhrupad, a composition set to distinct poetic text. The students of the Dhrupad institution are trained by Gundecha Brothers, classical Dhrupad performers of the city.
The listeners were spell-bound with the performances on the eve.
