City’s lad — Kumar Saurabh Singh — was conferred PhD by University of Camerino, Italy, in Bioinformatics. The title of his thesis was ‘Bioinformatics approaches in handling modern ecology and data generation of comparative genomics.”
The members of the defence committee were Prof Alessandro Valbonesi, Scuola di Bioscienze e Biotechnologie Sede Dr Alan Warren, Natural History Museum, life Sciences Department, london and Dr Flavio Mignone, Department of Science and Innovation Technological, Piemant.
Saurabh completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr Nicola Cannata and Dr Roberto Spurio. His thesis may be summarised as, with the advent of modern high throughput data technologies the amount of biological data available has begin to challenge our ability to process it. The development of new tools and methods has become essential for the production of analysis result based on such a vast amount of information. This thesis focuses on development of such computational tools and methods or the management and analysis of high though put data generated from two popular platforms microarrays and next generation sequencing.
The work comprises of two separate parts differing in genomic platform in question. First part focuses mainly on microarray data generation, management and analysis. whereas the second section detail about the sequencing and genome comparison study performed on the extreme halophytic bacteria answering ecological questions like species diagnosis, biodiversity assessment, species evolution and adaptation.
Moreover, the Rothamsted Research, london has appointed him as bioinformatics scientist. He has shortly joined to the new post. Saurabh belongs to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and son of RMP Singh, Rtd. Addl. Director, Public Relation Bhopal.
