City markets to shut half-day today

Bhopal markets will observe a half-day shutdown on Saturday in protest against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The Bhopal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) announced the shutdown, calling it a tribute to the victims and a united stand against terrorism.

Shops across major commercial areas, including New Market and Chowk Bazaar, will remain shut till noon. The decision was taken in consultation with various trade bodies, reflecting growing public anger and grief.

Tejkul Pal Singh Pali, BCCI president, announced the decision, saying that the gesture expresses solidarity with the families of the victims and sends a strong message against terrorism.

On Friday, Bhopal’s Muslim community led a protest at Imami Gate, condemning the attack. Wearing black armbands, men, women and children raised slogans, burned an effigy of terrorism, and called for strict action against those responsible.

Protesters described the attack as an assault on humanity. Maulana Syed Anas Ali invoked Quranic verses, stressing the value of life.

“Religion is being misused to spread violence,” he said, while urging for peace and restraint in this time of grief.

A tribute meeting is scheduled at 12 pm on Saturday at the BCCI office in Kohefiza. City traders will gather to pay homage to the victims.

Essential services, like retail medical stores, will remain open. Jitendra Dhakad of the Bhopal Chemist Association confirmed.
