The festive season of tempting chocolates, cakes, pastries, wonderful costumes, ‘Christmas’ and Santa Claus has arrived and the State Capital is gripped with the Santa fever.

The children get more attracted towards wearing a Red and White costume, the big beard and those sparkling eyes hidden behind big spectacles. Almost every restaurant and public place of the city gets embellished with Santa fever.“I love to get dressed as Santa for the children who come here and enjoy the Christmas week. I have a big sack in which I keep a lot of sweets and cakes for them and as they come to meet me imagining me as Santa, I distribute them the gifts,” said Ashok, a worker at a restaurant.

Not only this, but people dressed up in Santa Claus could be seen at various stores like Bahurani, Durlabh, Malls and at ice cream parlours, at restaurants as well. They are also seen at market streets of the city wooing children with sweets and cakes letting them enjoy the fest.Santa Claus is a legendary figure who is the traditional patron of Christmas in the United States and other countries, bringing gifts for the children. His popular image is based on traditions associated with Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century Christian saint.

Jisha, a student, said, “In my whole family, I am the only one who waits eagerly for the Christmas night because I believe that Santa Claus would bring gifts for me and my small brother and yes he does. Every morning we find gifts of our choices next to the X-mas tree. This is the most fun loving festival for me and my family,” she added.

Though being a fantasy tale, children get attached with the Santa Claus stories and believe that he will come to give them gifts on Christmas night. Believing this, various children buy Santa costume and dressing up like him they strengthen their belief. Commenting on this a garment store owner at main market says, “We get a huge sale of Santa costume every year as children love dress up like Santa at their school Christmas function. With this purpose we sell the costumes.” Children also buy Santa masks to add to their fun.No doubt, the Santa fantasy adds more charm to the Christmas celebration.
