A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) woman constable, posted at the Raja Bhoj airport, attempted suicide by shooting herself in the stomach with a service pistol at the Old Airport barracks on Tuesday afternoon.
Police sources said that the constable Ritu Kumari had to reach for duty at 2 pm. Just before that, she got the pistol issued in her name and within a few minutes shot herself. She used to live in a house in the campus.
Eyewitnesses told police that after having got the pistol issued, Ritu left the office and outside, she remained calm for few minutes and then shot herself. Other security personnel who were within the vicinity, immediately rushed her to People’s hospital, where she is struggling for life.
Police sources said that the victim had joined the force in 2009 and was transferred to Bhopal in February 2014. She hailed from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. “Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad-resident Ritu Kumari was admitted in serious condition to a private hospital and is undergoing surgery. The motive is unclear. She was recruited five years back and posted here in February," Superintendent of Police (North) Arvind Saxena said.
Saxena told that police are still investigating whether it was accidental or the victim deliberately attempted suicide. From the spot, the police have recovered the service pistol and one live cartridge, he added.
However, sources informed that the woman constable was upset as she was not getting leave since long.
