Chouhan vs Scindia: MP's fate today

Published on:

Whether Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would make it for third term or Jyotiraditya Scindia would emerge victorious in the Assembly elections will be decided on Sunday.

A day before the counting, leaders of all the political parties, candidates and over 4.5 crore voters are keeping their fingers crossed, as the verdict would be delivered within few hours only. In the 230-seat Assembly of Madhya Pradesh, political parties need 116 seats for clear majority. Almost all the exit and post-poll surveys indicated towards formation of BJP’s Government, but the Congress leaders are optimistic that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would not be bale to do any miracle this time.

Congress leaders feel that the electorates of Madhya Pradesh had in 2003 stopped then chief minister Digvijay Singh from making hat trick and similarly, the voters this time would not have voted for Shivraj giving him third term.

There are around 4.60 crore voters in Madhya Pradesh and out of them, 3.25 crore (around 72 per cent) used their franchise in the assembly election. This is the maximum percentage of votes polls in the history of Madhya Pradesh so far. About 50 lakh young voters polled this time and both the major political parties- ruling BJP and Congress are claiming that they went in their favour.

Both BJP and Congress campaigned with full thrust in the elections as all the senior leaders canvassed. State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar, while talking to media persons on Saturday claimed that there is no suspicion over the verdict and his party would emerge with clear majority in the outcome. The results would be overwhelming and the BJP would get mandate of more seats than previous elections, he added.

Regarding Congress’ alertness and complaints related to the counting, Tomar stated that Congress has sensed its defeat and thus its leaders are taking such steps.
