Accusing the Congress Government of destroying farmers completely, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday asked Congress interim president Sonia and ex-President Rahul Gandhi to apologise to the farmers.
Chouhan was leading a protest in Ichhawar of Sehore district as part of BJP’s State wide campaign on farmers’ issue.
Terming the Kamal Nath government anti-farmer and corrupt, Chouhan warned both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to amend their mistakes alleging farm loans were not waived off as promised by the Rahul Gandhi in first ten days of Congress government.
“It is high time they (Sonia and Rahul) apologise to farmers and ensure that loans of the farmers are waived off immediately,” stated Chouhan.
The BJP vice president further alleged that non-implementation of farm loans has handed a twin jolt to farmers as those awaiting waiver remained empty handed while those who were making regular payments also stopped payments and slipped into defaulter category losing benefits like interest free loans and crop insurance.
The state government also did not pay the promised bonus on crops including wheat, soybean and others, alleged Chouhan. If the demands are not met immediately, we would take to streets, announced Chouhan.
During the protest, Chouhan and other BJP leaders burnt electricity bills saying calling them highly inflated. He affirmed that if the electricity staff’s disconnect power supply of these consumers, our party workers would re-connect power supply as mark of protest.
Chouhan claimed that Congress had promised to halve electricity bills but instead the government was slapping hefty bills as high as Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 which was absurd.
