Check blackmarketing in fertilisers: Digvijay

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said that Madhya Pradesh Government should undertake immediate measures to prevent black-marketing of fertilizers in the state.

In a letter written to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said, “as farmers are facing lots of problems in getting fertilizers because of black marketing, poor marketing and distribution network, I demand from you to take immediate measures to resolve this issue.”

Singh further said, “though the Government rate for selling urea per bag (50 kg) is Rs287, it is being sold in black market at Rs450-500 per bag.”

The senior Congress leader alleged that during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule, Chouhan used to criticize the Centre over similar issues in the state. “But now despite his party being in power at the Centre he is not taking the matter seriously,” Singh added.

Singh said black marketing of urea prevails in Guna, Harda, Vidsha, Hoshangabad, Sagar, Raisen, Chhindwara and many other districts and sought immediate measures by the Government to deal with the situation. There is a demand of 20,000 MT of urea in Rajgarh parliamentary constituency, but only 10,000 MT is available leading to unrest among the farmers, he added.

He said that now there is no Congress Government at the center to cover up his failures as on earlier occasions he used to save his skin by cursing Congress led UPA for your failures. And this being the reason that now he has lost interest in the problems of farmers. This also makes it clear that despite making claims of being a farmer son he is not sensitive to the issues of farmers. Digvijay said Chouhan stands exposed else if he had a little bit of sympathy with the farmers he would have taken immediate steps to resolve problems of the farmers, he added.
