The Centre has agreed in principle to support the project of Madhya Pradesh for securing livelihoods by combating the impact of climate change through integrated farming.

The project will be launched on a pilot basis in select districts. Madhya Pradesh Government has sought required funds from the Centre to implement the project.

A recently held eighth meeting of the National Steering Committee on Climate Change at New Delhi evaluated Madhya Pradesh’s presentation on the project, which was cleared under the Climate Change Action Programme.

As per the project, small, marginal and middle farmers will be receiving training on climate change issues from Gram Panchayat to Gram Sabha level.

Madhya Pradesh made presentation on the strategies to enhance livelihood security through integrated farming systems.

Union Secretary, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ashok lavasa chaired the meeting in which MP's presentation was judged as ideal.

It is worth noticing that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the initiative of the Union Ministry of Finance in the budget of 2014-15 to established Rs 100 crore Fund to tackle the oddest situations arising out of climate change.

Official sources said that the State Environmental Planning and Coordination Organisation (EPCO) recently gave a presentation in New Delhi before the National Steering Committee on climate change.

Showing sensitivity towards climate change issues, the State Government recently held a national conference on global warming and climate change.

The experts suggested suitable strategies. The Madhya Pradesh Government has taken many initiatives.

The farmers will be counseled on aspects relating to climate change affecting agriculture produce cycles. The EPCO will work on grassroots level problems for three years studying how farmers face multiple challenges relating to climate change.
