'CBI should be given freedom in probe'

Functional freedom should be provided to the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI), which will accelerate the investigation and lessen the burden on them, said former Director of the CBI, Joginder Singh, during a programme held at Sagar Public school, here on Friday.

The agency should be provided freedom in investigation, so that more time could be devoted to every case, handled by the CBI. He was talking to the students of class ninth to twelfth, in Sagar Public School.

When questioned about the investigation of the examination scams in Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), he said that the CBI is already overburdened and thus it would not proceed in this direction.

Singh was honest in accepting that there are corrupt people in CBI also and action against them has been taken in the past, and whenever someone is found involved in corruption, he is not spared.

Replying to a query, Singh said that the political parties lack political will to undergo the surgery required to remove serious problems that are ruining the Country.

He raised doubt on the fewer number of chairpersons handling the mammoth job of monitoring lokpal.  Volley of questions were raised by curious students, which suggests that their high level of awareness and concern about the issues prevalent in the country.

They raised questions on delay in investigation, corruption, bribery and role of CBI.

Corruption is at individual level which is developed due to the self-centric nature of the individuals and which transforms into the system making the whole system corrupt, Singh told, while answering to a question raised by a student. He also discussed about his new book ‘No Dream is to big’.

“In 60s, we had very limited options; a person could go for film making (Bollywood), agriculture, grocery shop, but at present there are numerous options available for this generation,” he added.
