The sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation searched the office and residential premises of various officials the Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited here on Tuesday in connection with the card repairing scam. Besides, Indore, the CBI also searched residential and office premises of the BSNl officials in 14 towns and cities of Madhya Pradesh.
During the course search operations, the CBI sleuths are understood to have stumbled upon various incriminating documents pertaining to the scam.
The search operation was carried out following a search warrant order issued by the special CBI court Bhopal following a complaint of forgery lodged against retired and current officials of the BSNl and other private telecom companies in December 2013 last year.
As per the complaint, the officials of the BSNl in league with the officials of private telecom companies cleared as many as 383 bills related to repairing between 2006-2009 and made a payment of Rs 35,51,040 to the parties concerned.
On record, the BSNl officials had shown repairing works to be carried out by the private telecom companies which was found to be false.
Besides, Indore the sleuths of the CBI searched residential and office premises of the BSNl officials in Ujjain, Jabalpur, Dindori, Betul, Itarsi, Nagda and Bhopal respectively and seized various incriminating documents pertaining to the repairing scam. Further details of the search operations are awaited.
Sales tax survey
In a related development, the sleuths of the sales tax department surveyed the business premises of a prominent furniture showroom of the city Hutabi Furniture located at Barwani Plaza and stumbled upon various incriminating documents showing tax evasion to the tune of lakhs of rupees. According to report, the sleuths of the sales tax department following complaints of tax evasion, arrived at the Barwani Plaze showroom of Hutabi Furniture at 4 pm on Tuesday. During the course of survey which continued for the whole night, the department officials stumbled upon incriminating documents showing huge tax evasion. Exact details of the survey and tax evasion are still awaited as till filing this report the department officials were tight-liped to reveal details of the survey to the mediapersons.
