In a heart-rending incident, caretaker of a laadli shelter home in Bajaria area of the State capital burnt the private parts of a five-year-old girl, merely on the complaint that the victim was suffering from bedwetting.  The police registered a case against the caretaker and launched a hunt for her. Instead of taking the girl to the doctor, the caretaker of the ‘laadli shelter home’ Kalawati burnt the private parts of the girl with candles.

After failing to take care of her daughters due to financial problems around two months ago, victim’s mother left her two daughters at the laadli shelter home in Bajaria and on January 17 when she took her daughters home she spotted marks of burn injuries at private parts of her younger daughter. When she asked the victim about the injury marks, she kept mum and her elder sister described the whole atrocity to her mother.

Victim’s elder sister said that the victim was suffering from bedwetting during nights and instead of taking her to the doctor, she was punished. later victim’s mother reported the incident with the Child Welfare Commission (CWC) and a complaint was lodged with the Bajaria polices station. The police have registered a case under section 324 of the IPC and have started further investigation.

The police were not able to find Kalawati at the laadli shelter home and started searching for the accused. There are more than 30 girls in the shelter home. When the in-charge and other staff at the shelter home were tried to contact they were not ready to response and shun the questions regarding the issue. laadli Shelter Home is affiliated by Woman and Child Development department.
