Candlelight protest over Assam lynching

To protest the lynching of two youths in Assam’s Karbi of Anglong district, the Madhya Pradesh (MP) Assam Association has organised a candle light protest in Bhopal on Sunday at 7.30 pm near Indian Coffee House, MP Nagar.

Notably, two Assamese youths Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das were brutally killed by a mob on June 9 allegedly misunderstood as child kidnappers.

It is condemnable that people are being killed after being influenced by rumours and superstition even in this day and age, the association added.

Nilotpal Das was a sound engineer and worked out of Mumbai and Goa, while Abhijeet Nath had his own business. We are saddened by the fact that the two friends, who had gone for a short vacation to Karbi Anglong’s Dokmoka, became victims of fake social media reports and had to lose their lives in such a barbaric manner.

“While condemning such acts of mindless mayhem in the strongest terms, we also would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the two young men and pray for the everlasting peace of their souls,” the association said in a statement.

On this occasion, the MP Assam Association would also like to reassure our brethren that such stray incidents cannot break the unity of the people of Assam. The bond shared by 16 different communities will continue to grow even stronger every passing day.

The collective Assamese community is proud to carry this legacy forward, wherever we are placed, across the globe. Our strength lies in our unity and undivided love for one another and our motherland, it further added.
