The closure of display of CCTV cameras outside the jail premises, the strong room, where the EVMs have been kept, raised several candidates to question the intentions of the administration.
An LED screen has been installed outside the old jail premises that displays the coverage of CCTV cameras installed at different laces inside the jail, where EVMs have been kept. On Thursday night, all of a sudden, the LED screen stopped showing footages from inside.
As soon as the information reached the candidates, their supporters reached the jail premises in the night. Only one candidate PC Sharma reached the spot after midnight. Later, on Friday morning, a number of Congress workers and all the candidates of the party reached there.
On receipt of information, district Collector Sudam Khade also reached the strong room and inspected the EVMs kept there.
The Collector informed that there is already three layered security soon after the poll teams returned from their respective locations.
Tension however gripped the area on Friday after Congress workers deployed outside the premises for keeping an eye on the proceedings inside through a LED monitor that streams live telecast of Strong Room outside, alleged that the monitor had went off for around an hour.
Wasting no time the Congress workers staged protest alleging the technical glitch was engineered to tamper with the EVMs.
Soon after Bhopal collector Sudama Khade reached the Old Jail and an inspection he deduced that a short circuit had led to the technical failure and affirmed Congress workers that security was intact inside the premises.
For ensuring transparency in the proceedings, Khade claimed entry passes would be issued for political observers who could go inside and can be rest assured about the proceedings once or twice in the day.
Saying that no single authority is responsible for the premises housing EVMs adding the first layer of security is taken care by CISF, the second one by SF and outside its district police keeping vigil.
BJP however flayed the Congress for raking up unnecessary controversy. “The Congress believes in dragging credibility of constitutional bodies including EVM,” a party spokesperson said adding the opposition sensing defeat is resorting to all this.
Besides, the Congress has also chalked out a plan to counter any possible hacking of EVMs and MPCC president Kamal Nath would be imparting vital tips to party candidates to avoid tampering in EVMs on Dec 6 in Bhopal.
All the 229 candidates would be taught the measures which would help the detecting any tampering with EVMs on the day of polling On December 11.
