The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead of its arch political rival Congress in the campaigning for the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) mayoral elections, polling for which is scheduled for January 31. The main election office of the BJP mayor candidate Alok Sharma has already started functioning, after it was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday while the Congress candidate Kailash Mishra’s office would be inaugurated on January 15.
BJP is not only ahead of Congress in opening office but in campaigning also the saffron party is much ahead of the grand old party. Sharma has already indulged in campaigning by all ways including door to door campaigning, addressing public and corner meetings while Mishra is waiting to get his office started for launching campaigning and is till now meeting big leaders of his party and taking meetings of workers to formulate campaigning strategy.
Sharma who was doing door to door campaigning in the Eidgah area of the old city on Monday while talking to ‘The Pioneer’ said, “The BJP government of the state headed by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has done remarkable development of the state capital, some of the projects have been completed while some are underway. There needs to do lot more for the city, especially in the direction of making it clean and green city, if voted to power my aim would be to accomplish this.”
Mishra said, “I am waiting for State Congress chief Arun Yadav and senior party leader Suresh Pachouri to inaugurate my election office. Once my office opens, I would start campaigning. In the meantime I am taking blessings of elders of all communities and senior party leaders. If voted to power I would work to make the city a green city and would focus for better public transport. The BJP government of the state and the outgoing BMC ruled by BJP has miserably failed to do the development of the city.”
Meanwhile, the talk of the town is that sensing sure defeat Mishra is not willing to spend his own money and is waiting for the party funds to start his campaigning. While Sharma confident of victory is spending lavishly from his own besides the party legislators and parliamentarian of the state capital and other leaders are also contributing for his campaigning.
In any case one whoever wins, but one thing is for sure that the Bhopalites would elect a person who is vowed to make the city green.
