Builder's suicide: Family members stage blockade

Published on:

Enraged over the alleged suicide of a builder, Hemant Goel, at his office on Monday night, the family members, relatives and friends of late Goel here on Tuesday afternoon staged a chakka jam at the busy Bombay Hospital Square, thereby putting traffic movement in the locality to a standstill for a long time. Apparently perturbed over huge debt and threatening calls of his fellow builders from whom he had reportedly taken huge amount of money for his projects, the deceased Goel had committed suicide. Before committing suicide, Goel had penned down a suicide note stating as how he was being tortured mentally by builders Sharad Kale, Ashwin Mehta and Nawal Garg for the money he had taken from them for his real estate project.

After postmortem, his body was sent to his residence located at Sun City at 12 pm on Tuesday. However, as his funeral procession reached Bombay Hospital Square, the family members put his body on the road and staged chakka jam seeking stern action against those builders whose names have found mention in his suicide note.  On account of chakka jam, traffic movement in the locality came to a standstill with large queue of vehicles being stranded on the road on all directions. It was only after intervention of the police and assurance of suitable action to be initiated against the said builders that the family members withdrew chakka jam.

Police said late Goel in his suicide note had written names of some builders including accusing him of torturing for the money. On the basis of suicide note, we are investigating role of builders in suicide of Goel, lasudia police told this newspaper.
