Budget to be presented today: No new tax likely

Published on:

Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya would present the first budget of Shivraj Singh Chouhan government’s third term on Tuesday. It is expected that no new taxes would be levied on the citizens.

According to sources, the over Rs 1 lakh cr budget would have something special for all sections of the society. The government does not seem to be thinking of levying any new tax.

The Finance Minister is of the opinion that the Madhya Pradesh government does not have any money deficit and hence this time the budget hopefully will have no new taxes.

The first day of the budget session passed off peacefully. The House paid homage to the deceased leaders.  The Opposition is fully prepared to corner the government over the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam but did not raise its voice on the first day. The government is also ready with its reply.

The MPPEB scam is in the limelight since last fortnight as after the arrest of former minister laxmikant Sharma names of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders also made rounds in media circles. The MP police rejected media reports outright and made it clear that the late RSS chief KS Sudarshan and top RSS leader Suresh Soni have nothing to do with the scam.

The main Opposition in the state assembly, the Congress is raising the issue from the roads to the assembly and from Bhopal to Delhi to corner the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government of the state.

Meanwhile, the state government is digging up the erstwhile Congress government’s scams and would give its reply reviving the old scams.

Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that the allegations of the Opposition are baseless and the whole Cabinet is with the Chief Minister.

On the other hand,  the leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Satyadev Katare, terming the MPPEB scam as the biggest ever scam in the history of the state, said that the government is trying to shield many people accused of the scam. “We have put up over two hundred questions over the issue in the House and we are sure that our questions would silence the Chief Minister. We would bring out the truth of these scams through the House before the people of state,” he added.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan refuted the allegations leveled by the Opposition and said that the government is ready for any sort of discussion in the House. The Opposition should discuss the issues in the House but it is not doing so. The government would give a befitting reply to all the allegations of the Opposition, he added.
