Vice Chancellor of the Barkatullah University (BU) went fuming at the media persons at the first ever public hearing launched at the University premises on Tuesday. She even instructed the media persons to leave the premises.
Aiming to resolve the problems of the students at the Universities, Higher Education Minister Uma Shankar Gupta had issued orders to organise public hearing at the Universities of the State.
More than a dozen students and BU employees provided their complaints on Tuesday. It was the first public hearing organised at BU in which the vice-chancellor of BU Nisha Dube arrived late by half-an-hour. The applicants and media persons were waiting eagerly for the V-C’s arrival. As soon as she arrived the media persons started to take her photographs which irritated her to the extreme and she ordered the security to vacate the premises immediately.
Earlier also at several occasions, the vice-chancellor Dube has prohibited the media persons from taking photographs of the meetings and covering other events in which important issues are discussed by the senior officials.
Complainants with different problems attended the public hearing. Research scholars complained regarding delay in granting the fellowship and requested to improve the process for the betterment of the scholars. After several rounds to the BU for collecting fellowship provided by the UCG they are still left empty handed and are told to visit later.
Among the complaints by the BU employees they applied for the rectification in the seniority list of the department. Senior Professors and other employees alleged that even after the orders of the Supreme Court and High Court the amendments in the seniority list have not been incorporated. One of the students who took the exams as a regular student was given a mark sheet of ‘private student’. Students residing in BU hostels complained that there is no cook in the hostel. The public hearing was held from 11 am to 12 noon.
