Semester examinations in Barkatullah University (BU) are likely to be delayed by several months as the examination dates clash with the assembly elections in November this year as well as with the parliamentary elections in May 2014.
According to sources, BU administration is worried about the semester examinations as it clashes with the schedule of assembly elections.
State assembly elections will be held in November during which the first, third and fifth semester examinations are scheduled.
Similarly, in May 2014 general elections will take place during which second, fourth and sixth semester examinations are scheduled.
Notably, similar situation had arisen in 2008-09 academic session when semester system was introduced in BU.
At that time, the assembly elections were held in November 2008 and the general elections in April 2009. This led to delay in the university examinations by over three months.
This affected the final year students of graduation as well as post-graduation students who completed their degree only in November 2011, thus losing a year.
BU Confidential department Deputy Registrar VK Singh said that election commission has asked the university about semester examination schedule.
Department has sent the tentative dates of examination according to the academic calendar of Department of Higher Education (DHE).
He also said the university is planning to postpone the first, third and fifth semester examination till December last week as by that time elections will be over.
Sources inform that the administration is deliberating about writing a letter to Election Commission requesting to exempt employees of examination and confidential departments of the university from election duty as these employees will only carry out the examination work.
