Work at the Barkatullah University came to a halt on Thursday after Barkatullah University (BU) employees of all the departments left the administration building, gathered in the campus and raised slogans against the University administration and State Government.
The BU employees were staging protest against the fine imposed in the form of deduction of salary of 9 days for supporting strike held in December 2012. The protest was staged by the employees after a circular was issued by the Registrar of Barkatullah University Sanjay Tiwari regarding the deduction of salary of 9 days.
Office premises were emptied by the employees at around 1 pm after the orders were circulated regarding salary deduction. General Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh University Non-Teaching Staff Federation Avinash Burbure told that the federation had already submitted a memorandum regarding demands to the State government but no heed was paid on it. Following this, the employees were forced to stage protest against the State Government and BU administration.
During the protest a delegation of employees met Vice Chancellor Nisha Dube to discuss the issue and was assured that decision on the matter would be taken soon to provide relief from the deduction. At around 3 pm a group of protesting employees called on Minister for Technical Education Minister laxmikant Sharma and informed him about the grievances.
As many as 500 employees of the BU are going to be affected due to the passing of orders. Salary of a single day would range in between Rs 500 to Rs 700.
