Boost for Chouhan on eve of 9 years in office

On the eve of completing nine years in office, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan received a shot in the arms when the Supreme Court rejected AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s petition relating to alleged corruption in recruitment or MPPEB examination scam.

The clean chit has further placed Chouhan firmly in saddle. The recent problem he faced in terms of issues as the MPPEB examination scam, but he emerged yet stronger.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assumed office, the political circles were agog with talks that Shivraj might be given new responsibility at the Centre. But as time passed, in past six months, Shivraj has proved himself before Modi and he is on the top of the list of Chief Ministers who are working earnestly towards the expectations of the Prime Minister.

In past nine years, there have been several attempts to destabilise Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but he always remained calm and faced every attack sensibly.

After BJP’s thumping victory in Haryana, where IT Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kailash Vijayvargiya was election in-charge, Vijayvargiya emerged as strong leader and thus political circles feel that he might get bigger responsibility.

However, Shivraj supporters feel that there is no substance in such talks as being in Haryana, the Minister proved his organisational skills and he might be accommodated in BJP president Amit Shah’s team at the Centre.

Almost every leaders hailing from Madhya Pradesh his individual following, whether Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, former State chief of the party and present vice-president Prabhat Jha or Union Minister Uma Bharti, but Shivraj Singh Chouhan has no separate group in the party. Neither he believes nor is in favour of such politics.

Regarding his major achievements, providing round the clock electricity is a milestone. Chouhan says, “When I had first talked about this to the officials, they did not agree stating that it was next to impossible, but at present, it is a reality just with the will power and concentrated efforts of officials.”
