Gross negligence has come to the fore in the State Capital after the body of a 17-year-old youth went missing from the mortuary at Hamidia hospital. The incident came to light on Wednesday when the deceased was identified
and his family members reached there to claim the body. The victim had died on July 29 in MP Nagar.
The family members created a hue and cry on discovering that the body was missing from the mortuary when they reached there to collect it.
DIG Raman Singh Sikarwar said that the investigation on the part of the police was completed and the body was handed over to the employees of the mortuary. He said that the investigation conducted so far suggested that the mortuary employees handed over the body to somebody else without noting down complete details of the persons to whom the body was handed over.
However, Sikarwar claimed that it was probably done by mistake, bad intention or for some other reason could not be ascertained and proper enquiry to make the negligent accountable, a magisterial enquiry would be conducted and SP (South) Anshuman Singh has written a letter to the District Collector for magisterial inquiry into the matter after which action could be taken against the culprit.
The deceased was identified as Imran. The missing complaint was lodged with the police on July 20.
The officials concerned of the hospital management were seen shirking responsibility on the 'missing body' issue and claimed that the body has been handed over to the family members who have refused such claims.
In the initial investigation police have found that the body was handed over without checking any information of the recipients which was gross negligence on the part of the concerned officials of the mortuary.
According to the police, the deceased was found dead in a shop at MP Nagar on July 29 and after the post-mortem the body was kept in the cold storage as the body remained unclaimed but later the father of the deceased Rashid Khan surfaced and when they went to collect the body it was found missing.
The deceased went to the shop for burglary but was electrocuted, on July 29.
