BMHRC gets cell separator machine for gas victims

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh Government’s Bhopal Gas tragedy relief and rehabilitation Department and Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center (BMHRC) have come together to provide good facilities to the Bhopal gas victim patients. The Gas Relief Department has given a blood cell separator machine to BMHRC.

This machine is very beneficial for BMHRC’s blood bank and will make it easier to provide different blood components to the patients. During the blood donation, this machine extracts only the essential components like plasma, RBC etc from the blood of the donor.

The remaining components are returned to the donor's body. Dr. Manisha Shrivastava, Director-in-charge and Head, Blood Transfusion Department, BMHRC said that two blood component separator machines are already available in blood bank. One more machine was needed.

A machine was available in Indira Gandhi Gas Relief Hospital. Keeping in view our requirement, we had requested Shri Rakesh Kumar Srivastava, Director of Gas Relief Directorate and other senior officials, to provide the machine. We are grateful to him that he accepted our proposal.

Dr Manisha Shrivastava said that blood contains components like plasma, platelets and red blood cells. Different components of blood are required in the treatment of many blood related diseases. For example, thalassemia patients require red blood cells (RBCs), dengue patients require platelets, burn case patients require plasma. Blood component separator machine separates all these components. It is also used for stem cell transplantation.
