Bhopal Municipal Council Corporation (BMC) in its general council meeting here on Tuesday passed a resolution for establishment of abattoir facility at Adampur Chhavani, in the outskirts of the State capital.
This decision came, after the directives from State Government which had few days ago reversed a proposal passed by the BMC opposing establishment of abattoir facility within municipal limits.
BJP legislator from Huzur constituency Rameshwar Sharma, in whose constituency, Adampur Chhavani falls was strongly in opposition to the slaughterhouse in his Assembly segment. After the decision in the general council meeting, Sharma told media persons that he is with the opinion of Adampur Chhawni residents.
Amidst opposition from Adampur Chhawni, Congress corporator Girish Sharma pulled up BJP corporators for changing their stand and reversal of the earlier proposal. Sharma went ahead and announced protest rally would be held along Bypass road, near the proposed abattoir site on October 5.

BMC passes resolution for establishment of abattoir
The proposal was on Tuesday opposed by Sharma and another Congress member Amit Sharma. Mayor Alok Sharma and other senior BJP corporators who had earlier opposed to the establishment of slaughterhouse in Adampur Chhavani immediately left the ISBT building, where the meeting was in progress.
The controversial location for the facility has been opposed by locals in Adampur. Opposition to the proposed site began in 2016, when local MlA Rameshwar Sharma announced the establishment of facility would ‘hurt the sentiments of locals’.
On similar lines, local Congress leader Girish Sharma said the site is next to a temple. He alleged that BJP that talks about protection of cows and lord Rama, has been exposed. There are vested interests at play who want to establish an abattoir facility at Adampur Chhawani only.
