In pursuance of an order issued by the Bhopal bench of National Green Tribunal in April to impose a complete ban in the city on the use of polythene with less than 40 micron thickness, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated steps to take strict action against those found violating the order.
Issuing the directive on Wednesday, BMC directed the Sanitation in-charge to prevent businessmen, manufacturers, industrialists and others from using polythene with less than 40 micron width. The BMC officials have been asked to issue challans in case of any violation of the order.
The BMC has also appealed the residents of Bhopal to not use such polythene as carry-bags as it is harmful for the environment.Notably, the Bhopal bench of National Green Tribunal had passed the order banning use of such polythene on April 8.
In its order, the tribunal had imposed a complete ban on use of polythene with less than 40 micron width by businessmen, industrialists and manufactures keeping in view its harmful impact on the environment.
