BMC gardener commits suicide

A 32-year-old gardener employed with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), Amar Ahirwar, committed suicide at his residence in the Sukhi Sewania area on Wednesday evening. According to police, he was found hanging in his home, and preliminary investigation suggests prolonged mental distress as the cause.

The incident came to light when local residents, concerned by the lack of activity in the house, peered through a window and saw Amar’s body. They immediately alerted the police and his family.

Amar’s elder brother, Anil Ahirwar, informed investigators that Amar had been battling severe emotional distress over the past few months, primarily due to ongoing marital issues. His wife had been living at her maternal home since February and, according to Anil, frequently threatened to file a case against Amar. She allegedly subjected him to emotional manipulation, which deeply affected his mental health.

The situation worsened a day prior to the incident. Amar’s wife had reportedly asked him to come collect their three-year-old son, but when he arrived, no one was present. Later, she demanded that the child be returned, further contributing to Amar’s psychological stress.

On the day of the incident, Amar had attended a wedding and returned home in the evening. Around 7:30 pm, neighbors discovered his lifeless body. Police responded to the scene, sent the body for postmortem, and began recording statements from family members to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.

The case underscores the serious impact of emotional strain and mental health issues. Authorities have emphasized the need for support systems to address such distress and prevent similar tragedies.

An investigation is ongoing.
