The anti-encroachment squad of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished the illegally constructed restaurant Fusion Spice in Shahpura Chhawani area of the city on Saturday.

The anti-encroachment squad was led by the In-charge Qamar Saqib and the squad used two JCB machines for razing down the building.

To tackle the untoward incident or any opposition from the owner, the BMC officials had called police force.

BMC Additional Commissioner MB Singh and the City Planner Suneeta Singh remained present during the action.

This action has raised the political heat of the city. The locals alleged that Mayor’s action was politically motivated, as the local MlA Surendranath Singh was in favour of the restaurant owner.

It was alleged that the BMC officials did not inform the owners of the restaurant before taking action. However, the restaurant had all the permissions and it was not even involved in any land dispute.

local MlA Surendranath Singh also reached the spot after getting the information of the action. He tried to convince the official to stop the action. However, he left the place after checking the documents and appealed the officers to take a break so that the restaurant owners could voluntarily remove the furniture and other things before the action.

Notably, these licenses (pattas) were provided to the 183 slum dwellers who were displaced during the construction of Kaliasot Dam. Rajendra Singh Kushwaha bought three licenses illegally from these people. Three years ago, fusion spice restaurant was constructed here.

BMC officials claimed that they had been receiving several complaints in this regard since 2014. People have complained about this restaurant to Mayor Alok Sharma on July 31 when he was passing from there. He sat down there only and called the BMC officials and instructed them to take strict action after checking the requisite permissions and other documents of the restaurant.
