BMC: Congress announces final list

The Madhya Pradesh Congress continued to struggle till Thursday night for distributing tickets for the municipal elections in Bhopal. The final list of corporator candidates was finally released on Friday along with a few amendments in the previous list.

The amendments included, from ward 24 Asif Zaki was named, but since it was a woman reserved ward, his wife Shabista Sultan was nominated from there. Similarly, in ward 62, in the first list, the party had nominated ex-corporator late Balmukund CHoukse’s wife Krishna Choukse, but later nominated Doly Yadav, wife of sitting corporator Manish Yadav. Notably, Manish Yadav’s parents have earlier represented the ward in the Municipal Council. After his wife’s candidature was cancelled, he directly contacted State Congress president Arun Yadav and other senior party leaders in New Delhi and finally succeeded in obtaining ticket for his wife.

Besides, in ward 8, where Congress’ mayoral candidate Kailash Mishra lives, Congress legislator Arif Aqeel’s brother Amir Aqeel has been nominated. For the past eight months, a dispute was visible among the supporters of Arif Aqeel and Kailash Mishra. Kailash was in favour of fielding his son Anil Mishra from this ward, but Aqeel succeeded. Since, it was the last date for withdrawal of nominations and submitting the ‘B’ form by the candidates, on Friday, a list of B forms for party candidates were submitted. However, the B forms for candidates in ward 60 and 70 were not included.
