BJP's online drive inflates enrollment figures in MP

The online membership option has come as a breather for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers who had been facing problems in completing the targets of enrolling members in the party. With the help of the online process, the party is learnt to have reached the figure of 70 lakh enrolments in the party till date. However, party sources claimed that genuine membership in the State hardly touched 16 lakh.
The last date for enrolling members to the party is March 31 and thus the party leaders and workers have accelerated the process. First, the party had come out with a toll free number and by giving miss call on this number, one could get an SMS informing about the membership number, but to complete the process, the person has to send an SMS with personal details to a mobile number receiving along with the membership number.
This was a lengthy process and the party leaders and workers found this a time consuming and cumbersome process. At times, the person, if not well acquainted with the mobile phone, the party workers had to meet the person and complete the process by themselves. Now, with the help of this online facility, the details of the individuals including mobile number could be submitted in the membership form available in the official website of the BJP. A senior functionary of the party told 'The Pioneer' that the person concerned would certainly receive a confirmation call. "No matter, if there is no mobile signal available in the region, the confirmation call would reach anytime, whenever the person reaches in mobile signal range," he added.
However, factually, at present, no confirmation is needed and thus filling form several times a day, the membership could be increased easily.
Notably, the national BJP president, Amit Shah, had given a target of two crore members, but the over-enthusiastic State unit of the party has assured that it would make 2.21 crore members in Madhya Pradesh.
