BJP wants dalit leaders but those who are deaf and mute: Udit Raj

Attacking the BJP Government at the Centre for ignoring the cause of dalits and tribals, former BJP MP, Udit Raj, questioned the silence of President Ram Nath Kovind over the same.

Raj who has recently joined Congress was speaking to mediapersons here on Monday. He re-affirmed his allegation that BJP wants dalit leaders but those who are deaf and mute.

Calling the BJP anti-Dalit, the MP claimed that the Centre did not pursue the SC/ST case properly in Supreme Court which led to increased sectoral tussle in the society. The Dalit leader also alleged that the BJP instead of talking of an equitable society propagated social harmony (samrasta) which meant they wanted to continue the caste bias.

The MP claimed he had openly raised his voice on this and atrocities against Christian community despite being in BJP post 2014. He slammed the BJP for alleged double standards on Sabarimala row and triple talaq ban saying if the temples are run by traditions, then Islam is also governed by traditions. “The BJP wants Dalit votes but not Dalit leaders.”

Claiming that he wasn’t the questioning the institution of President of India, he claimed he was raising questions against President Ram Nath Kovind as a fellow Dalit and sought to know why he was silent on community issued including the remarks from BJP ministers for destroying the constitution, rampant privatisation, no Dalit getting appointment as 38 Vice Chancellors and 500 judges were appointed. “What kind of duty he (president) discharged all this while,” he questioned.
