After having lost the Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now making efforts to finalise its leader (Leader of the Opposition) in the State Assembly.
Since, the maiden session of MP assembly commences on January 7, the BJP is left with only 10 days to decide its leader in the House.
Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had emerged as the favourite choice for the role. Such a hint was also given by Chouhan to media that he wanted to remain in the State politics instead of going to Lok Sabha.
Since, the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, the high command of the BJP feels that in view of getting more seats in the parliamentary polls, Shivraj should be fielded in the Lok Sabha.
In such a scenario, Chouhan could be in for some crucial responsibility rather than being LoP which has a limited role for the party organisation.
Besides, in the aftermath of quota stir, Brahmin faces –Narottam Mishra, an MLA from Datia and eight time MLA Gopal Bhargav from Rehali in Sagar, were also in contention for the coveted post. However as Mishra has been appointed as in-charge of Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, he is considered out of race.
Since, Bhargav is the oldest member in the present assembly, he could be appointed the Leader of Opposition. Sources also claimed that Bhargav had recently visited RSS office in Bhopal. It is believed that Bhargav too is keen for becoming Leader of the Opposition.
