'BJP thinks about minorities during elections'

Senior Congress leader and former chairman of Wakf Board Gufran-e-Azam  hit out at the BJP Government in Madhya Pradesh, saying the saffron party thinks about welfare of minorities only when elections are around.  “I want to know from the BJP what prevented it from doing something for minorities since 2008 and why all of a sudden it has started thinking about them,” Gufran-E- Azam said at a Press conference here held on Friday. Azam also criticised the BJP for its conference scheduled here on September 25 as part of its efforts to woo Muslims ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls.

He asked from where the saffron party would bring 50,000 Muslims in the Mahakumbh, as publicised by its leaders. It was certain that they would bring fake Muslims only with skullcaps and veils, he added. In an oblique reference to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Congress leader said, in his view, there was not much difference between the two. “One tries to fool people by not wearing a skull cap and the other wears it to show he is truly secular,” Azam said.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Azam further said that Chouhan was much involved in fake announcements that if somebody asked him to help in going to heaven, he would assure to install a lift up to heaven. He also said leaders of the BJP including former State BJP president Prabhat Jha used him politically by visiting his house. However, after having realised the fact, he closed the doors for them. Azam critised senior party leader Aslam Sher Khan for levelling baseless allegations on the party.
