BJP releases list of 28 candidates for upcoming bypolls in State

After a long wait, the Bharatiya Janata Party released list of 28 candidates, accommodating 25 former Congressmen for by-polls in a list released on Tuesday late evening.

It was long anticipated that those who left the Congress party to join BJP in March this year will be fielded in the by-polls. And the BJP list had no surprises.

As many as 14 of them are ministers in Shivraj government and desperately need wins to keep their ministerial berths alive.

In between it was expected that some of the new entrants could be dropped from the list amid sharp dissent in the BJP camp but eventually the ruling party seems to have quelled the rebellion successfully.

Total 22 Congress MLAs had resigned and left with Jyotiraditya Scindia in March this year and three others-Pradyumn Singh Lodhi, Sumitra Devi Kasdekar and Narayan Patel had resigned later, and are part of the candidate list issued by the BJP on Tuesday.

The former Congressmen were sure of tickets and were active in their respective constituencies for long.

However, it will be interesting to note how the simmering discontent is dealt within the BJP camp after the announcement of the official list of candidates.

The Congress has issued list of 27 candidates in three lists and is only to announce candidature from Biaora seat.

The by-polls hold crucial importance for the fate of Shivraj Singh Chouhan government as both the BJP and Congress are well away from majority mark in the MP assembly.
