BJP may send Tomar to RS

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering sending its State president Narendra Singh Tomar to Rajya Sabha and to field vice-president of the party Prabhat Jha in the lok Sabha polls.

Similarly, to take on Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in the lok Sabha polls, the saffron party is mulling to field Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava against him from Guna. Ahead of the crucial State election committee meet here on Friday, strategists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are brainstorming to make foolproof plan to accomplish 'Mission 29' a success.

Besides the State election committee would meet to discuss names for the ensuing Rajya Sabha and lok Sabha elections. It is expected that after this important meeting panel of candidates for all the 29 parliamentary seats of the State would be formed. The important State election committee meeting scheduled at the State BJP headquarters would be attended by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, leader of Opposition in the lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, national general secretary in-charge for the State Ananth Kumar, State president Narendra Singh Tomar, State organisational general secretary Arvind Menon, former Chief Minister Sundarlal Patwa and Bhopal MP Kailash Joshi.

The last date for the filing nomination of the Rajya Sabha election is January 28. There are three vacant seats of Rajya Sabha from MP, but going by the number of legislators in the State Assembly, the BJP would gain two. Since, the last date for filing nomination papers for the Upper House is near, the election committee would first decide names of its candidates.

Since, Tomar is not interested in contesting the lok Sabha election from Morena, which he represents now, thus the party is considering sending him to the Upper House. In the meeting, sources claimed that the party may also consider fielding Prabhat Jha in lok Sabha. There is also an option of fielding Tomar from Gwalior, instead of sending him to the Rajya Sabha.
