BJP legislator from Bhopal’s Huzur constituency Rameshwar Sharma, without consulting Mayor of his party, in a letter to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) suggested measures to stop encroachments over the Upper lake of Bhopal.
Sharma in a letter to Chairman, NGT - Central Zone Bench on Wednesday said, “It has been observed that since last days that encroachments over the upper lake are increasing in the cover of constructions being done by private
land owners, farmers and ancestral property owners. None of the officers from any agency bothered to check till now as how many encroachments have come up in the periphery of upper lake and what sort of and how many constructions are going on there.”
Sharma further said that even the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is constructing a retaining wall that is touching the upper lake near Khanugaon, this needs to be broken because it has shorten the periphery of the lake.
As the upper lake is completely used by the BMC hence a committee involving BMC, Collector Bhopal, Superintendent of Police chaired by yourself and that should do survey and videography and after that a fifteen feet road should be constructed between the upper lake and the private land across the lake similar like that of VIP road, he added.
He said that if parts of private land come in between construction of road that should also be included in the construction of road as this land comes under green belt and no concrete construction could be done over it.
The Construction of road between private land and upper lake would also work as the boundary of lake and private land, he added.
