“On the contrary, Congress-led UPA has worked out a special plan for welfare of minorities in the country. Under this special plan, large scale works for minority welfare will be initiated in 710 blocks of 140 districts in the country.
“This is a major initiative of UPA in direction of removing poverty and illiteracy from the minority community,” MPCC co-spokesman Sajid Quraishi remarked in a statement released on Thursday.
Quraishi said that the Centre had reduced the population requirement of 25 per cent to 15 per cent for provision of welfare scheme to the minorities.

“These resources will be utilized in programmes and schemes for educational, economic and social upliftment of minority community,” he said.
Elaborating on the schemes that are in the pipeline under special financial allocation of the 12th Five-Year Plan, he informed that drinking water-tanks, residences in urban and rural areas, hostels for girls and boys, community centres and reading rooms will be provideded.
Also the Ayurvedic and Unani medical centres, roads connecting residential colonies and religious places of the minorities, buildings for schools and provision of coaching centres for competitive exams will be provided among others.
Alleging that the BJP has no concern for welfare of minority community, Quraishi said that the State Government has completely ignored the Sachhar Committee report.
