BJP hires magicians to woo voters in MP

To woo the voters in the urban bodies' elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has engaged local magicians for campaigning in several parts of the State.

Party sources said that there are at least three such magicians who are active in different parts of the State including Betul, Rajgarh and Malwa regions.

These magicians gather crowd in the rural areas by showing small tricks and then the local party workers inform the people about State government schemes and appeal to vote for the saffron party.

Notably, this has been an old practice adopted in the elections to woo the rural people, as magicians are quite popular in the villages.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other senior leaders of the party including State president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan and organizational general secretary Arvind Menon are continuously touring the State campaigning in the civic bodies' polls.

Besides, 11 lED raths have been prepared that are moving places showing 18-minute recorded speeches of the Chief Minister. However, it is quite difficult for them to reach in every rural area.

Senior party leader Tapan Bhowmik told 'The Pioneer' that these magicians are quite in demand. They exhibit small tricks like coming out with Rs 100 currency note from a simple paper and others. "We have arranged for three magicians and they are on job," he told.

The magicians some or the other way focus on showing 'lotus' the election symbol of the BJP.

Sources said that a team of a few magicians had worked in the last lok Sabha elections for Sushma Swaraj in Vidisha constituency.
