BJP Govt has failed to check crime: Nagma

Published on:

Noted actress and All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Nagma on Friday alleged that rape cases were highest in Madhya Pradesh and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has failed to check the rising crime graph. However, she did not like the media queries regarding rising rape cases in Congress-ruled Delhi.

Nagma while talking to media at the Congress headquarters here said, “From 2004 to October 2012, a total of 27,104 incidents of rapes and gang rapes took place in Madhya Pradesh, which means nine girls on an average are being raped in the State every day."

She alleged that after October 2012, there had been a marked increase in incidents of rapes but the State Government was not doing anything to curb the menace.

While the State Government has framed large number of schemes for the welfare of women and girls, they are not being implemented and only exist on paper, Nagma said.

The actress-turned-politician also alleged that human- trafficking is rampant especially from the tribal areas and according to official figures, from 2004 to October 2012, over 37,000 girls were abducted from the State.

Despite this, the State Government was not taking the matter seriously, she alleged. Also, despite several schemes, 60 per cent children are malnourished and 73 per cent women are anaemic in the State, the actress lamented.

While the State Government always insists on raising the budget for nutritious diet to the needy persons, in reality the money meant for it is being pocketed by the contractors close to the ruling party, Nagma further alleged.

When the media persons questioned her silence over the Delhi gang rape and would she raise questions over such incidents taking place in Delhi the actress turned politician lost her temper. “I am here to talk about the Madhya Pradesh and by asking such questions the media appears to be in support of the accused here, this is not correct.”

Answering questions related to the recent spot fixing in the IPl Nagma defended Sakshi Dhoni and at suggested that at the place of shutting down IPl law should be formulated to curb stop fixing.
