BJP forms panels to select candidates

While the Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress is still struggling to form panels to sselect candidates for the upcoming urban bodies’ elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday initiated the process by declaring committees that would finalise their candidates.

The BJP leadership on Monday announced divisional committees that would finalise the panels of candidates that would be sent to the State-level coordination committee. Besides, State-level appeal committee has also been declared that would listen to the grievances of those who would not be able to get party tickets.

Meghraj Jain has been appointed as chairman of the State-level appeal committee and its members would be Kailash Sarang, Rahgunandan Sharma, Vinod Gotia and Ved Prakash Sharma. State-level coordination committee comprises Sunderlal Patwa as convenor and Kailash Joshi, Vikram Verma, Thanwarchand Gehlot, Satyanarayan Jatia, Krisna Murari Moghe, Prabhat Jha, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Ved Prakash Sharma and Narottam Mishra as members.

Notably, the State Election Commission has already released the election programme for the local body polls that would be held in two phases on November 28 and December 2.

Since, the nominations would commence in two days and Congress’ failure to come out with the candidate selection panels, strengthens the speculations that the party may shy away from contesting the polls and could allow all its aspirants to contest and who so ever emerges victorious would be crowned with party’s tag. The grand old party has done this during the local body polls on an earlier occasion.
