Criticising the Congress party over its vice president Rahul Gandhi’s statement that ‘poverty is a state of mind’, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said that the former was in a habit of making and trapping the poor in false promise in order to garner votes since Independence.

BJP’s State spokesman and legislator Vishwas Sarang said that earlier it was Indira Gandhi’s slogan ‘Garibi Hatao’ and then the Planning Commission who defined the word poverty from time to time in different ways and they have always added to the grievances of poor. He alleged that Congress has dragged the country towards poverty with corruption and other scandals.

He said the statement of Congress’ scion on poverty was a proof of his shallow knowledge of social science as well as politics and added that BJP was concerned with the issues of the poor and was dedicated to their development. On the other hand other spokesman of Madhya Pradesh BJP Vijender Singh Sisodia urged the State Congress president and parliamentarian Kantilal Bhuria to stand up fearless in favour and betterment of tribals. He further alleged that Congress has deceived the tribals, whereas the BJP in the NDA Government had come up with a Ministry of Tribal Affairs making Faggan Singh Kulaste as its Minister in the Union Cabinet.
