The ruling BJP has on Saturday emerged victorious in elections of three urban bodies- Nagar Palika Parishad Harda and Nagar Parishad Amarkantak and Mandav. Its candidates have bagged post of president in Harda, Amarkantak and Mandu municipal councils.
Surendra Jain of BJP was declared winner for the post of president of Nagar Palika Harda. Jain obtained 27,858 votes whereas Harimohan Sharma Advocate of Indian National Congress got 14,868 votes. Thirty contestants of BJP, four contestants of Congress and One Independent were declared winner for the posts of corporators in Harda.
Moreover, Prabha Paneria of BJP has been declared winner for the post of president Nagar Parishad Amarkantak. She obtained 2,263 votes whereas Ankeshwari Singh of the INC got 1,145. For the post of corporators, 11 contestants of BJP, three of the INC and one Independent were declared winners.

The defeat in these elections is another setback for Congress after Shahdol lok Sabha and Nepanagar assembly seats by-elections. The results of the local body elections assume significance for the BJP in the run-up to the Assembly Elections this year, and that they were held just after the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes by the Centre.
Enthused by the results, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan congratulated the BJP workers. "Congratulations to the winners of Harda, Mandav and Amarkantak civic polls. I thank the public from my heart for this big victory. This triumph will help speedy development of the State and fulfil the dreams of Swarnim Madhya Pradesh," tweeted the CM.
