Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State vice-president Anju Makhija has called on all the political parties of the country to arrive at a consensus on women’s reservation Bill.

Makhija said, “The demand for one third reservation for women in the parliament and assemblies has not only been justified by the President Pranab Mukherjee, vice president and chairperson of Rajya Sabha Mohammad Hamid Ansari but the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed it as commitment of the nation.”

Makhija furthers aid that at present the women representation in parliament is 12 per cent. lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan by repeating the report of International Monetary Fund (IMF) has made the issue of women reservation unquestionable and indispensable that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country that stabilized at 7 per cent could be increased up-to 27 per cent with the increase of women participation, she added.

She said now it is very much relevant to expect from all the political parties of the country to arrive at consensus in the country for women reservation as the NDA government’s bill is awaiting consent of political parties.

While terming the organisation of National Women Empowerment program a timely initiative, BJP state vice president lauded the efforts of lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan for organising the program.

She advocated for women representation in constitution of standing committees of parliament and urged the parliamentarians to prefer women at the time of appointing their MP Representatives.
