BJP blames UPA regime for coal crisis

Published on:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has blamed the erstwhile United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for the scarcity of coal in the country.

Increased electricity prices and its scarcity and shortage of coal are tactical drawbacks of UPA government said Prahlad Patel, National President of BJP Mazdoor Morcha.

Patel said that in previous five years under the name of environment protection UPA government has distributed the coal mines in Go-No go. Due to this the production and development of new mines was hindered, he added.

He further said that scams were done in coal block allocation due to which the interest of the investors was drawn to earn more profit. Investigation in coal block allocation has brought an end to this, he added.

He said that due to this coal was imported from other countries. The electricity tariff was decided by adding the cost of imports in it. As a result the production of electricity has reduced throughout the country along with closure of various power houses, he added.

Prahlad said that 65 % of the electricity generated throughout the country depends on coal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi after understanding the situation has handed over the Coal and Power ministry to one Minister. This shows the foresightedness of the prime minister, he added.

He further said that research has started to increase the production of coal throughout the country due to which the production of coal will reach the required level. Now new coal blocks have distributed on the basis of their quality.
