Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State vice president and parliamentarian Raghunandan Sharma accused Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government of the centre of betraying farmers by allowing foreign investment in acquiring agricultural land.
Sharma in a statement here on Sunday said that investment of multi national companies in agricultural land would rupture the future of farming and farmers. He warned the three members cabinet committee that includes Union Urban Development Minister Kamalnath, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma to reject the proposal which is totally against the farmers.
He said that the BJP will not tolerate it as foreign investment and therefore it is forbidden under “foreign investment management act”.
In fact even domestic investors are also not allowed to purchase agricultural land through banks to keep the price of land intact. The act will pose threat to food security apart from leaving farmers displaced from their land, he added. Meanwhile, State spokesperson of BJP and MlA from Narela Vishwas Sarang in a separate statement alleged the Congress of cheating the non Congress ruled states.
He alleged congress of having partisan attitude for such States. He accused the Congress for the reason behind the gap between what we are what we should have been. The BJP ruled States have laid the foundation of development on their own despite having very slight assistance from centre. The comparison between the Congress and the BJP ruled States is the proof of our claim, he added.
While praising the NDA rule, he said that all the States were looked with the same glass in the BJP led NDA rule. He accredited Prime Minister Village Road Scheme and Golden quadrilateral scheme of connecting common man with mainstream development. The GDP of India rose to 8% in the regime of BJP. The leadership of Narendra Modi in Centre is the need of the hour and India has set its mood in this direction now, he added.
