BJP, Cong protest over famers' issues

Both the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were on roads on Monday in Madhya Pradesh over the issue of benefitting farmers.

The Congress protested across the State against Centre’s step-motherly treatment on flood relief while the opposition BJP was on streets over pitiable condition of farmers in the State.

Accusing the Centre of not extending monetary relief to Madhya Pradesh after the massive flood damage the central Indian State witnessed this monsoon, the leaders and Ministers of Congress party agitated in all the district headquarters.

The Congress leaders are even urging their counterparts from the BJP to stage dharna in New Delhi against their own Government in Centre so as to make them release funds for the state.

On the contrary, the BJP leaders are accusing the State government of not doing anything for flood-hit farmers and instead shifting the blame on the Centre. The senior BJP and Congress leaders had taken up the reins of the protests in different cities. In Bhopal, Leader of Opposition in MP assembly Gopal Bhargav led the protest near the Collector office, while senior Congress leader Suresh Pachauri addressed the protest at Roshanpura square, from where the Congress leaders and activists marched upto Governor House and submitted a memorandum.

In a scathing assault on former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, State Higher Education Minister Jitu Patwari speaking to the media claimed that Chouhan was shedding crocodile tears for the farmers.

Accusing Chouhan of not doing anything for farmers in his rule, Patwari even asked the former to die out of shame. Questioning his tenure, Patwari asked as to how the farmers plunged into debt so much as the BJP Government was persistently receiving Krishi Karman award in last 15 years. “In Chouhan’s tenure, the police had shot down six farmers in Mandsaur, over 15,000 farmers had committed suicide while thousands of farmers were slapped with fake cases,” said Patwari.

Chouhan was in Rewa district inspecting crop damages with farmers in farms on Monday.

BJP state president Rakesh Singh also accused the Congress government of lying endlessly on issues including farm loan waiver, flood relief and electricity bills.

“Forget about extending flood-relief, the state government did not even carry out survey for crop damages in the state,” claimed Singh asking when the Congress government had announced loan waiver on its own, why its blaming Centre on flood

relief.
