Billabong Intl school joins Raahgiri Day

Billabong International high school participated enthusiastically in the Raahgiri day, an initiative of the State Government, at lake View Road.

Enthusiastic students joined thousand others here on Sunday: the vociferous tots from grade 4 presented a ‘nukkad natak’ in Hindi emphasizing the need to save the streets for pedestrians and to prevent pollution. At the urging of a bystander, one of the children soundly condemned those people who were part of the Raahgiri day and were yet littering that very area.

Senior students of the school took it upon themselves to choreograph a dance on this same theme. The group of 6 was dressed to denote the Five Elements or the Panch Dhatu through colours viz orange for Fire, blue for Water, green for Wind, brown for Earth, gold for Mineral and artistically etched tattoos to complement their attire.  The sixth member was dressed and tattooed in white and purple to represent ‘man’ who alone is singlehandedly responsible for caring and conserving these elements which are the Universe’s greatest gift to mankind. The song chosen was ‘Bezubaan’ for the elements are truly mute and only man can save them by giving  his concern and commitment a ‘voice’ or ‘Zubaan’.

Balloons carrying messages to save the environment were released at the end of the performance to spread this message, quite literally, far and wide! Thunderous applause acknowledged the efforts of the students. A big draw also was the Tattoo corner headed by the Art teacher, Vandana Asif and her team of dedicated artists. The endeavour also included questions thrown randomly at the gathered crowd to test their awareness of their motherland.

Billabong places on record its gratitude to the Organizers and Coordinators of this drive which is totally in sync with the school’s mission to develop a conscientious attitude in its children for this is the true meaning of education.
