Rights activist Ajay Dubey would be behind opposing the faulty Whistleblowers’ Protection Bill that is going to be tabled in the Upper House of Parliament soon. He would chalk out the shortcomings in the Bill, so that on these points the Congress members would oppose it.
Notably, the Whistleblowers Protection Bill has been passed in the lok Sabha and would now be brought in the Rajya Sabha to get its nod.
Dubey while talking to The Pioneer said, “The Whistleblowers Protection Bill brought up by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and got clearance from the lok Sabha should be opposed by one and all. The BJP Government has weakened it and we are meeting leaders of all the opposition parties to garner their support for opposing this bill. This bill should not be cleared without undergoing amendments in it.”
Dubey further said that on Tuesday we have met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi in presence of Congress general secretary and MP Rajya Sabha Digvijay Singh who would look after the Bill in the upper house. The Congress leaders were satisfied with our views and have shouldered me with the responsibility of preparing a proposal marking the points in the current bill that weakens it, he added.
He said that the proposal would include the points that need amendment and suggestions that what should be the changes in that so it could become strong law. “I have been given a week’s time from the Congress leadership to submit the proposal with party general secretary and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh who would handle the proceedings over the bill from Congress side in the upper house,” Dubey said.
The other whistleblowers who called on the Congress President and vice president with Dubey were Anand Rai, Ashish Chaturvedi and Prashant Pande.
