Bhopal's 'Kiss of love' heading for a face-off on Rahgiri day

The 'Kiss of love' activists are likely to face strong opposition by district police and the Sanskriti Bachao Manch on Van Vihar Road during the Rahgiri day on Sunday.

“We would not allow any obscene acts on the streets of the city which would harm Indian culture,” said Chandshekar Tiwari of Sanskriti Bacho Manch who are geared up to restrict 'Kiss of love' organizers from any shameful act on Rahgiri Day.

Hindu outfit activists have registered fierce protest against organisation of any event under the 'Kiss of love' campaign.

Besides, the police officials in Bhopal claimed that they have not received any such intimation seeking permission for the protest. In such a situation, the police would be forced to take stern action against the organizers, if 'Kiss of love' protest is held during Rahgiri Day.

The activists of the Hindu outfit are demanding that the administration should not provide permission to the organizers. While talking to 'The Pioneer', Tiwari accepted that it is a free country but the freedom which the campaign is propagating is distorted form of freedom and could not be accepted in the Indian culture. Indian culture is embraced and praised across the world due to its rich cultural and moral values which are still practiced as the people have strong faith in them.

On the other side, the administration and police are playing a wait and watch game. When contacted, DIG Bhopal (Urban) Shrinivasa Varma said that no permission has been given and police would take action if required. He added that the precautionary arrangements could not be shared and they are prepared and would take care of the campaign on Rahgiri Day.

The campaign which started at small level turned massive after supporters across the country started joining the campaign. Around seven educational institutes of the city would participate in the campaign. The participating institutes are BSSS, MANIT, NlIU, JlU, IIFM, NIFT and OIST.

Tiwari expressed displeasure over the whole campaign and termed it useless and baseless and claimed that the outsiders are behind the campaign whose families and parents are not in the city which has provided them this opportunity to create such awkward situation for residents of the city.

The supporters of the campaign who are involved are creating embarrassing situation for others who are going to visit Shahpura lake on Sunday for Rahgiri Day as women and girls who are going to visit would witness obscene actions. He demanded support of the intellectuals of the society in their protest.
