Considering the importance of World Environment Day the Bhopalites took several initiatives by planting trees and pledged to contribute their best to keep the environment free surrounding.
Similar was the initiative taken by Udaan group. Udaan is a group of few women who works for the society and its related issues. On the occasion of World Environment Day, the members of Udaan group donated plant saplings in SOS Village.
On the occasion, the members also pledged to contribute their bit for the greener and healthier environment.
Talking about the event, one of the members of Udaan and a theatre artist Shalini Gupta said, "We donated and planted 65 plants and trees of different categories, like floral, fruit, ornamental and big trees to SOS village for children. It was done on the eve of World Environment day, by members of Udaan Group"
The group members including Shalini Gupta, Pooja Shashtri, Mala Chawla, Keerti Gupta, Alka Malik, Gayatri Tripathi, Reena Gupta, Rinki Shrivastava, Nandita Parihar, Aparna Dubey, Sulekha Tiwari were present on the occasion.
It is to be noted that World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. \
Every year it has a different theme. This year the theme is Beat Plastic Pollution.
