Consumers of electricity in the city continue to face problem with the electricity bills as they are being forced to pay for electricity consumption upto 45 days.
As per rules, the companies can not charge for more than one month, 30 or 31 days. If they charge more, the consumers would have to pay in upper slabs.
The Consumer Care and Billing System has been implemented recently and for the implementation of the system changes in the billing software has to be incorporated which has lead to several problems resulting in the wrong bills for the past few months.
In the months of June, July and August, the company added the security deposit in which an additional bill of average usage of 15 days has been included in the bills which makes the period of 30 days to 45 days.
Another reason of the inflated and wrong bills is the execution of new tariff rate which has been started but the consumers are not aware of the new tariff and the implementation has been done without any prior arrangement it has been implemented which is causing problems as the bills are made accordingly but no set pattern is used.
Accepting the fact of complaints in the electricity bills MD of Central Region Power Distribution Company Vivek Porwal told that the changes incorporated in the billing system and due to changed tariff there are some problems which would be resolved soon and the billing cycle and system would be made smooth.
Interestingly the senior officials are found absent while the lower staff does not pay heed to the problems of the consumers.
The problems have created an additional charge on the consumers. Jawar Singh of Ashoka Graden said that his electricity bill which used to be delivered before 10th of every month has been delivered on 19 of September which has raised the bill significantly as the reading which was around 200 units before 10th crossed 250 units and he was charged with charge of the category 250-300 units.
Officials have claimed that the system would be made functional within two months after which the billing would be regular and the problems would be resolved.
